What can I do to help?
If you lack programming skill, money is always helpful. I would love to make digital classics research and development my full-time job, but someone has to foot the bill. Please contribute to help make Andromeda possible.
If you have some artistic talent Andromeda could use a proper application icon and custom toolbar icons. Anything you can do has to be better than me.
For you programming wonks out there, the Andromeda Framework, the plug-in engine that revolutionizes digital philology, isn’t ready for prime time just yet. I have to take time off to do real work, but when I come back in a couple of months I will clean up the APIs and let them loose on the world.
Andromeda’s native tongue is Objective-C, but I’m developing a glue plugin so that your Perl code (PhiloLogic, Diogenes, etc) will be easy to port over. If you do straight C or C++ you’ll feel right at home as well. Actually, you’ll feel lazy: Andromeda does everything for you! It mediates file formats so that you don’t have to learn the Byzantine intricacies of the TLG, or waste your life on TEI primers. It provides lexical services via the Perseus database, so you can get right to work on stemming. It converts Beta code to Unicode seamlessly.
You don’t have to think too big. If you’ve ever written a tool that makes a classicist’s life easier, I would love to have it running under Andromeda.
